Harrisburg, NC Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are one of the most popular treatments we offer here at McNeely Family Dentistry. Essentially, dental caps are caps that Dr. McNeely places a tooth over a tooth to restore its normal size, shape, and function. If your tooth is weak or you’re bothered by its appearance, a dental crown may be a good option.
Reasons for Dental Crowns
There are a number of reasons Dr. McNeely may suggest a dental crown. If your tooth is worn, cracked, or weak, it may make sense. You may also be a good candidate for a dental crown if your tooth is discolored or poorly shaped and you wish to improve its aesthetics. Additionally, a dental crown can be beneficial if you’ve recently undergone root canal treatment and need to strengthen your tooth.
The Dental Crown Process
Fortunately, the process of receiving dental crowns is fairly simple and straightforward. At your first appointment, Dr. McNeely will take an impression of the tooth that needs a crown. Then, he’ll place a temporary crown and send the impression so that a custom-fitted crown can be made. At your second appointment, Dr. McNeely will fit and permanently cement your crown.
How to Care for Dental Crowns
If you receive dental crowns, you’ll care for them just as you would care for your natural teeth. You’ll brush them twice a day and commit to daily flossing. It’s also wise to avoid chewing on hard foods or objects as they can damage your crowns. In addition, you’ll need to visit our office for routine exams and professional teeth cleanings.
